Q&A
What is the difference between IT support and managed services?
IT Support does not align its IT strategies with the business goals, provide any advice or guidance on improving or optimizing the IT systems and infrastructure. Managed services, on the other hand, focus on the business aspects of IT systems and consider the business impact and the value of the IT systems.
What do Managed IT services include?
Managed IT services can encompass many responsibilities but typically include: remote monitoring and management of hardware and infrastructure, as well as security services, including monitoring, penetration testing, threat hunting, or incident response.
What does an IT managed services team do?
A managed service provider (MSP) delivers services, such as network, application, infrastructure and security, via ongoing and regular support and active administration on customers' premises, in their MSP's data center (hosting), or in a third-party data center. Typical tasks a managed IT services company provides are: helpdesk support, onsite IT support, cyber security, network monitoring, patch management, desktop management, server management, IT consulting, vCIO strategic guidance, IT projects, IT budgeting, backup & disaster recovery, VOIP phone support, third-party vendor support, maintain compliance requirements.
Are managed services worth IT?
Establishing successful managed services partnerships ensures your company benefits from consistent pricing and the flexibility to focus on essential business challenges rather than the intricacies of IT management. Having managed services IT partner is a life saver for many businesses, especially start-ups, and small to medium sized companies.
Why use a managed IT service provider?
Managed Service Providers (MSP) typically monitor and maintain a business's IT infrastructure, and performs a range of day-to-day IT tasks on their behalf. By outsourcing IT responsibilities to an MSP, small businesses can recoup valuable time and focus their resources on core initiatives.
Is there a difference between managed service to SaaS or is IT the same thing?
Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is a modern, digital alternative to managed services, but there are pros and cons to each option. While using a managed services provider (MSP) means giving over control of your application toolset to a third party, still you have one entity responsible for oversight of your IT landscape. IT companies typically sell software licenses to customers, installing and running the software on the customers hardware. In contrast, SaaS companies provide access to software over the Internet, with customers paying a subscription fee to use the software.
What is an example of a managed service?

- Remote IT system monitoring
- Network monitoring
- Patch management
- IT infrastructure management
- Network and server maintenance
- Fix and remediation automation
- Help desk
- Engineering IT support
What is the difference between IT support and IT services?
The primary differences between IT support and managed IT services are frequency and scope. If your company needs a new IT infrastructure or is looking to overhaul its current systems, IT services provide a comprehensive evaluation of your company’s needs and handles the design, installation and implementation of new networks, servers, and systems.
IT support refers to maintaining a company’s current IT system, including its system, network security, and data backup. IT support also assists users with common issues like network connectivity problems or forgotten passwords.
What is the difference between internal IT and managed services provider?
Managed IT services refer to outsourcing your IT needs to a third-party provider, known as a managed service provider (MSP). On the other hand, in-house IT services involve building and maintaining an internal IT team within your organization.
In-house IT services refer to the traditional approach where companies have an internal IT team to handle their technology needs. This team is employed directly by the company. It manages and maintains the IT infrastructure, resolves technical issues, and ensures the company's IT systems are secure and up-to-date.
Managed IT Services involve outsourcing your IT needs to an external provider or MSP. These providers have a team of experts who remotely monitor, manage, and maintain your IT infrastructure, offering a comprehensive suite of services ranging from network management to cybersecurity.
What is the difference between AMS and managed services?
MSP is a broader term that encompasses a wide range of services, including providing IT infrastructure and hardware support, application development, maintenance, and support.
AMS (Application Management Services) is a more specialized type of service that focuses on the management of applications. The goal of an AMS provider is to make the systems run more efficiently with application enhancements, upgrades and optimizations.
What are cloud services and managed IT services?
Cloud services generally include vendor management of application, data, and platform services, but usually don’t include management of the customer workload itself.
While cloud services are software offerings managed by vendors and delivered to customers on demand, managed IT service providers typically provide the cloud platform on which their service is delivered as part of their service.
Managed IT Service providers take over many tasks that would otherwise need to be done in-house, such as maintaining systems and infrastructure.
With a managed IT service provider, you can still reap the benefits of cloud computing—such as flexibility and scalability. These providers can also help you migrate your business to the cloud and maintain its ecosystem once it’s onboard. A managed service provider offers 24/7 security monitoring and business IT support. With a MSP, you can focus on running your company while outsourcing its technical challenges to someone else.
What is the difference between IT services and software services?
IT services have a broader scope as they encompass various aspects of an organization's IT environment. In contrast, software services focus exclusively on software-related tasks.
Simply put, the core difference between software and IT companies is that software companies create, change or maintain useful products. IT companies ensure that all systems, devices and software work together to help people get things done. IT encompasses everything that has to do with computers, laptops, servers, networking, phones and software.
